David Gard is a senior consultant with 5 Lakes Energy. David brings extensive knowledge and experience in energy policy and sustainable systems. He briefly directed the Oberlin Project, a local partnership in Northeastern Ohio aimed at reducing carbon emissions and fostering community resilience. That role followed more than ten years with the Michigan Environmental Council as the energy program director. At MEC, David helped lay the groundwork for Michigan’s expansion of renewable power and energy efficiency programs. His professional background includes previous work as a design engineer in the material handling industry, and four years as a U.S. naval officer serving aboard the USS Mount Whitney.
Complementing David’s broad range of experience is a formal education that spans the fields of business, natural resource policy, and engineering. He completed the dual degree MBA/MS program at the University of Michigan’s Erb Institute. Areas of emphasis included sustainable business, industrial ecology, and manufacturing operations. He also holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University.
David is vice president of the board of Michigan Energy Options, and he serves on the external advisory board of the University of Michigan’s Center for Sustainable Systems.
