A new study by 5 Lakes Energy, which was commissioned by the city of Ann Arbor, examines options for the city to transition to 100% renewable energy for its electricity use by 2030. The study assesses the feasibility of shifting to a municipal utility, as well as the costs and benefits of creating a new sustainable energy utility that would offer residents subscriptions to rooftop solar and other forms of clean energy in addition to their regular utility services (Michigan Radio, Sept. 26, 2023). 5 Lakes Energy Managing Partner Douglas Jester publicly presented the report’s findings to the Ann Arbor City Council on Sept. 26 (MLive, Sept. 27, 2023).
