DAN EBERT
As a partner with 5 Lakes Energy, Dan Ebert strengthens the leadership team and expands the impact in the Great Lakes region on climate and energy issues.
Along with his 30 years of experience in policy development, advocacy, communications, coalition leadership, and fundraising, Dan brings to 5LE his keen insights, strategic vision, and deep practical experience in the most pressing policy, regulatory, and market challenges facing the energy industry.
Since 2015, Dan has worked to accelerate the transition to a zero-carbon economy as the founder of the Ebert Group, where he helped to launch the Wisconsin Local Government Climate Coalition and served a diverse roster of clients, including state and local governments, non-profits, charitable foundations, clean energy companies, utilities, and an energy research consortium.
Immediately prior to launching his firm, Dan served as Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and External Relations for WPPI Energy, where he provided top legislative, regulatory, and communications leadership for the Sun Prairie, Wis.-based electric utility which serves 51 municipal members in three states.
Ebert joined WPPI after a five-year stint as an appointee to the Public Service Commission (PSC) of Wisconsin, which included chairing the regulatory agency from 2005 through 2008. While at the PSC, Ebert played a leadership role on two gubernatorial task forces exploring policy options to address climate change and expand the deployment of clean energy strategies. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Organization of MISO States (OMS), where he focused on transmission planning and cost allocation issues.
Earlier in his career, Ebert spent 15 years in Washington, DC working in a variety of public- and private-sector policy roles, including Legislative Director to U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-Washington). Ebert also has extensive regional and national board experience, including director positions with the Customers First! Coalition (CFC), the Transmission Access Policy Study Group (TAPS), the Fund for Lake Michigan (FFLM), and the Consumer Federation of America (CFA)
