5 LAKES IS EXCITED TO HELP COMMUNITIES APPLY FOR CLIMATE AND CLEAN-ENERGY GRANTS!
Billions of dollars in state/federal funding are available or on the horizon for local investments in clean energy, climate justice, and decarbonization solutions that will help Michigan hometowns pursue equitable prosperity, enhance quality of life, and improve public health, while preparing for extreme weather and other climate-related challenges.
However, with limited capacity and resources, communities frequently find it difficult to complete complex applications for this funding in the short timeframes often required.
With support from generous funders, 5 Lakes Energy will help local and Tribal governments—and community organizations—overcome these barriers to submit high-quality, competitive applications for climate and clean-energy grants.

Our Services
5 Lakes Energy will meet partners “where they are” with a menu of services, including:
- Navigation assistance to help communities crystalize their needs, goals, and plans and match them with high-impact state and federal climate- and clean-energy funding opportunities.
- Basic grant writing support to draft clear, persuasive, and compelling proposals that are well aligned with grantmaker priorities and guidelines.
- Administrative assistance with key tasks like registering with online government application systems, creating budgets, and/or filling out forms that government grants often require.
- Modeling and data analysis to quantify the projected benefits of proposed investments, using metrics such as emissions reductions, job creation, and improvements in public health.
- Project and strategy development to empower partners to turn their goals and ideas into fully conceptualized plans that feature proven and innovative climate solutions.
Your Investment
5 Lakes Energy hopes to help as many communities as possible submit as many successful grant applications as possible. To make the most of our resources, we will expect the partners we assist to:
- Contribute to the application process as much of their internal capacity as they’re able, so that 5 Lakes can fill gaps rather than duplicating resources that partners already possess; and
- Dedicate the staff time and attention that’s necessary to assemble all the required application materials and submit winning proposals.
We will provide free help to Justice 40 communities. To stretch available resources and invest them where they’re needed most, we may ask communities with greater means to pay for a share of our services.
