DAVID GARD
David Gard is a lead consultant with 5 Lakes Energy, focusing on utility system modeling and design, energy policy analysis, and business advocacy.
With formal education in engineering, business, and resource policy, David brings a broad perspective to his work at 5 Lakes Energy. He leads the firm’s Buildings and Transportation Team which conducts research and modeling to understand the impacts of measures that save electrical energy and reduce on-site and vehicle fuel consumption. Results of this work inform the development of public policy, the design of customer-facing utility programs, and community-level efforts to reduce carbon emissions. David’s portfolio also includes delivering expert witness testimony in regulatory cases and directing the Michigan Energy Efficiency Contractors Association (MEECA), a statewide trade association.
Prior to joining 5 Lakes Energy, David worked in the nonprofit sector to advance smart energy policy, designed material handling systems as an engineer and served in the U.S. Navy. He holds MBA and MS degrees from the University of Michigan and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University. He currently sits on the Center for Sustainable System’s external advisory board at the University of Michigan.
A native of Cincinnati, David lives in East Lansing, Michigan.
