GRAHAM WOOLLEY

Graham Woolley is a Consultant at 5 Lakes Energy, with a focus on statistical modeling for utilities & energy optimization and a knack for translating technical jargon into actionable policy.

Graham is a physicist by training with an undergraduate degree from the University of California-Berkeley. During his time there, he did experimental research in the Nuclear Engineering department, investigating features of certain nuclear reactions and new methods for geochronology. He also did work on Dark Matter at the Berkeley Center for Theoretical Physics.

Through his academic coursework and individual research, Graham became interested and well-versed in the fundamental science of climate change, its effects and how to mitigate them, and the economic constraints on the scaled progress of decarbonization.

The pandemic, which occurred shortly after he graduated, forced Graham to pause his planned pursuit of a career in the climate action space. He instead spent 2020-2022 as a high school STEM teacher, serving students in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland, CA.

At 5 Lakes, Graham’s projects have included energy policy modeling for the state of Michigan, data pipelining and analytics for utility performance, physical modeling of weather-dependent transformer aging, and various data wrangling processes that streamline work for his colleagues.

Graham lives in the San Francisco Bay Area where hikes the region’s endless scenic trails with his pitbull, Jenga. He also enjoys paddleboarding, biking, traveling, playing musical instruments, and reading.
